Karsten Dambekalns

TYPO3 Association

Speaker Photo

Karsten Dambekalns, born in 1977, learned the basics of web technology the hard way, by looking at other website's HTML source code, after having finally switched to Linux from OS/2 and Windows. All this happened after having learned BASIC and Assembler on a good old Commodore C128...

He co-founded fishfarm netsolutions at the end of 2000, parallel to studying Media Science and Computer Science at the Technical University at Braunschweig, one of the German Institutes of Technology. This was were he met his future business partner while working with a team on a web-centric project. During his studies he introduced students to the differences between PHP and Java for web application development and implemented a small XML-driven content management system for the website of his faculty.

Karsten discovered TYPO3 in 2002 and got caught by it's immense possibilities. Having worked with TYPO3 for over a year Karsten joined the TYPO3 snowboard conference in 2004, only to use the newly knit web of contacts to become the driving force behind the actual implementation of a long planned database abstraction layer for TYPO3. Now he is part of the TYPO3 5.0 development team and an active member of the TYPO3 Association.

Karsten mostly lives in Braunschweig, Germany with his wife L?ga, two kids and a nameless espresso machine.

Jagadeesan Balakrishnan

interexa AG

Speaker Photo

I am Balakrishnan, 27 years old, Male from India.

I did Bachelor of Engineering in Computer science from Bharathiar University, India and hold Masters degree in Computer Visualistics from O-v-G Universität Magdeburg, Germany.

I have passion towards software development, particularly using PHP since my studies. I did freelancing in PHP for various web applications during my Masters degree and did thesis under the topic "Conception and Implementation of Web Analysis for the Web Navigation" in PHP.

Since after my graduation in Germany, I was working as a PHP developer at M-Bis GmbH, Germany. After working there for 2 years, I had much interest towards Risk Management concepts and hence moved to Interexa AG, Germany on 2004. Interexa specializes in risk management with regard to the controlling of operational risks according to Basel II and counts among its clients the lion part of the top 30 banks in Germany.

To enhance the product and the risk management strategies using PHP in India, I decided to freelance from my home country (India) and as a long term plan, to establish a software company that'll mainly concentrate on using PHP in Risk Management applications. Hence I moved to India on February 2007 and since then, I have been working as Freelancer for the same German company, Interexa AG.
